Greener driver training

Town & Country Cleaners are a company committed to achieving reductions in carbon emissions in line with government expectations and as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility to the global community. As a consequence we decided to educate ourselves on how we could do this and to embed this along with our business objectives. By far the greatest impact we could as an organisation have on reducing carbon emissions is by reducing fuel requirements. Less fuel = less emissions, sounds simple and simply it is! To achieve this we needed to look at what systems we had in place, how we could collate the data and importantly how we can influence our staff in such a way as they are properly advised and properly engaged in this. We introduced Smarter Driving Training for employees through a (Greener Driving Day). This means driving in a style that reduces fuel consumption and as a consequence provides savings from ever increasing fuel prices. Smarter Driving also reduces CO2 emissions and to date we have managed to place 34 employees through this course. Our employees had one-to-one tuition to learn the techniques required to drive in a more considered way. Each driver completes a given circuit twice, once before and once after training. MPG is measured for both circuits so that drivers can see for themselves how much they save. The potential financial savings are equally big, saving employees money on their private mileage and saving the company money if provided with a company car or van.
