Supporting Brands who stand behind Plastic Free July
Plastic Free July has been around for 13 years and in this time, they have raised awareness about the issues revolved around plastic pollution, single use plastic, plastic in our ocean and how it affects the environment we live in. The organisation encourages individuals, businesses, organisations, and communities to take action to reduce their plastic waste.
What’s the big deal?
Plastic can take hundreds of years to break down which can harm our wildlife, contaminate our water and recent studies have shown that it can enter the food we eat as animals are mistakenly eating small portions of plastic.
Studies had also shown that fish who had consumed plastic have gone on to show abnormal behavior such as slower eating and hyperactivity. If this is happening to our fish, it can affect humans in the same way too.
Plastic that ends up in our landfills as waste or burning plastic can release toxic fumes into the air, this has harmful effects on our health. Burning plastic releases Dioxins which is known to affect the immune system, respiratory system, impact developmental delays and can interfere with hormones.
Now knowing this small amount of information on the effect of plastic to our environment, health and wellbeing, we would love for you to head over to www.plasticfreejuly.org and participate in this movement, not just for July but all year round.
Businesses can make positive changes by reducing the use of plastic in production and using minimal packaging or using eco-friendly packaging, also encouraging customers and other business to recycle or compost. It’s not too late to introduce a recycling program in your office, classrooms, or factories. Lastly, we can educate and train our employees and customers on reducing their plastic waste.
By working together, we can reduce plastic use throughout the supply chain!
